MxDiplomats Correspondent: President Claudia Sheinbaum launched the “Mexican Diaspora Chairs” program to reconnect Mexican researchers working overseas with institutions at home.\
The initiative will let scientists abroad teach remotely, mentor students, and collaborate on research without relocating permanently. Participants will join the National Researchers’ System and receive an annual 45,000 peso mobility grant for academic visits to Mexico.
“Many Mexicans studied abroad and stayed outside the country. We want them to reconnect and contribute from wherever they are,” Sheinbaum said.
Eligible applicants must hold a PhD, have a Mexican host institution, and apply via the Rizoma platform from 26 June to 24 July. The call opens 5 June. Results come out from 14 September, and the program starts January 2027.
The goal: build a permanent network of Mexican scientists abroad to boost higher education and tech development at home.
