Mexico presented Olinia, its first domestically designed electric vehicle last week. Commercial production starts in 2027.
President Claudia Sheinbaum called it “the seed of a new innovation ecosystem built from Mexico.” The project shifts focus from export assembly to full tech design and local supply chains.
Developed in 18 months by SECIHTI with IPN, TecNM, and 80+ researchers, Olinia was engineered at a new center in Puebla. Governor Alejandro Armenta backed the project to make the state a hub for electromobility, AI, and clean energy.
The first model, Olinia Uno, targets urban drivers with a starting price of MX$150,000 / US$8,600 – a segment global brands have ignored.
