Mexico’s dining scene continues to attract global brands, with US chain Chipotle Mexican Grill set to open its first Mexican location on Thursday in San Pedro Garza García, Monterrey.
The launch, done in partnership with Mexican operator Alsea, is being positioned as a milestone for both companies. Chipotle said it is entering Mexico with “deep respect for the country’s culinary heritage” and plans to expand to more sites in Nuevo León and to Mexico City in 2027.
Alsea CEO Christian Guirría said his company pursued the franchise for 5-6 years, calling it an opportunity to showcase how Mexican-inspired food is enjoyed worldwide.
The opening highlights Monterrey’s role as a key market for international food concepts and the growing appetite for diverse dining options in Mexico. Chipotle operates over 4,000 restaurants globally and is also expanding to South Korea and Singapore this year.
Local food bloggers noted Monterrey’s proximity to the US makes it a natural test market for new concepts.
