In these final weeks of the summer vacation period, the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) invites tourists and visitors to explore the seven tourist regions of Michoacán and enjoy forests, Magical Towns, gastronomy, culture and nature experiences, including the 29th Senguio Mushroom Expo Fair, which will take place from August 21 to 23.
The Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora , highlighted that the natural and cultural diversity of Michoacán allows for offering experiences for different types of travelers and, at the same time, promoting tourism that generates benefits for the host communities.
“Michoacán is a destination best enjoyed through its landscapes, its flavors, and above all, its communities. We want more tourists to discover the richness of its forests, its culture, and its gastronomy, and for each trip to contribute to generating shared prosperity for those who make these experiences possible,” explained the head of the Ministry of Tourism.
As part of this offering, Senguio is preparing to celebrate the 29th Mushroom Expo Fair under the slogan “The little giants of life and health,” an opportunity to delve into the Michoacán forests and learn about the diversity of species that grow in them.
During the three days of activities, the arrival of around 25,000 visitors is expected, with an estimated economic impact of 2 million pesos, which will benefit service providers and residents of the region.
The program includes mushroom tourism tours through wooded areas, conferences, artistic and cultural activities, as well as the participation of 40 exhibitors and a display of around 250 species and varieties of fungi.
The Secretary of Tourism of Michoacán, Roberto Monroy García , has highlighted that the diversity of experiences offered by the state allows for strengthening tourism activity in its different regions, by linking nature, culture, gastronomy and traditions with the participation of the host communities.
During the end of summer, Michoacán also offers alternatives for those looking for everything from a getaway among forests and mountains to tours of historic cities, communities, lakes and beaches.
In the Monarch Butterfly Country, the wooded landscapes and communities of the eastern part of the state allow visitors to enjoy contact with nature; while the Purépecha Plateau brings the visitor closer to traditions, crafts and a cultural identity that is kept alive from generation to generation.
Lake Pátzcuaro and its surrounding communities offer landscapes, history, and cultural expressions that are integral to Michoacán’s identity. Adding to this is Morelia , whose Historic Center, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, allows visitors to explore plazas, temples, museums, and buildings that bear witness to centuries of history.
For those who prefer other landscapes, the Michoacán coast offers beaches and contact with nature; Zamora stands out for its agricultural and gastronomic wealth, while Tierra Caliente adds natural settings, traditions and the hospitality of its communities.
Gastronomy accompanies each of these journeys. Michoacán’s traditional cuisine, whose paradigm contributed to the recognition of traditional Mexican cuisine as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, preserves preparations such as corundas, uchepos, tarasca soup, carnitas, whitefish, churipo, atapakua, and enchiladas placeras, as well as traditional sweets like chongos zamoranos.
